Mother had her 88th birthday last month and this was one of the gifts she got. Is this not the cutest wrapping! It is wrapped in the comic section of the newspaper and the “bow” is a miniature Milky Way candy bar with Hersheys Kisses surrounding it. How unique!
And what was the gift? A box of Kleenex! Do you know how many Kleenex an 88 year old woman goes thru??? Well, let me tell you…it’s a lot! We have Kleenex in the bathroom, in the bedroom by her chair, in the living room. Never, ever think about snatching a little old lady’s purse because there is no money in there. What is in there is lots and lots of Kleenex!
Anyway, if you ever want to make a call on an elderly person, this is a great gift. My cousin teaches a class of seniors and she puts paper towels and kleenex on her table at her Christmas party for them. Then on their way out the door they get to pick one or the other. THEY LOVE IT!! It’s useful, it’s something they need. What more could you want?
Back to Mother’s day, here’s a picture of her eating with her brothers, their wives and my children.
I fixed lunch and they came to enjoy a meal with her. She seemed to enjoy it.
When she got thru eating, she just put her head down on her arms. I think she’s tired a lot because she doesn’t do anything but she doesn’t do anything because she’s tired.
I think at 88 you ought to get pretty much whatever you want. That’s the best time in your life for someone to spoil you. So Mother has a candy jar we keep filled. She sleeps most of the day and her doctor tells me she’s happy. With parents you will question yourself just as you question yourself in raising your children. I constantly feel like I should be doing more. I grieve for the time she won’t be with me. I get frustrated on days that the responsibility seems overwhellming but overall, I am so thankful that God not only placed me in her life but that He placed her in mine.
